La Guagua 47
In 2022, Ritmo Lab brought together an unprecedented collaboration of Latino Philadelphia multidisciplinary artists, community members, and partners to create La Guagua 47, an eight-minute film bursting with Latin music, dance, and visual art. Over 1,000 people participated in diverse settings and events to envision, create art, and perform in the film.
La Guagua 47 was born out of the desire to create an authentic and positive portrayal of Philadelphia’s Latino community, full of talent and beauty, yet still often invisible, overlooked, and stereotyped. From its start as a salsa song to its realization as a film, La Guagua 47 captured the community’s hearts and minds with its universal story about the search for community and belonging. The film’s beauty vividly represents the extraordinary talent and positivity in Latino communities everywhere, eager and ready to be fully leveraged across all social and economic dimensions for the benefit of all.
